Individuals and groups who support the U.S. Capitol Police mounted unit are urged to IMMEDIATELY call, write and email their Senators and Congressional Representatives and politely request that they reconsider and continue this essential mounted police unit.

It is imperative that everyone do so, in order for the unit to continue. We need each of you to help keep the unit going!

Sample Letter:

Dear Senator/Congressman:

I strongly oppose the elimination of the U.S. Capitol Police mounted unit in HR 2985 Legislative Appropriations 2006. The elimination of this critical and effective police mounted unit is a waste of the public's tax payer dollars spent establishing and training the unit. Disbanding this police unit does not take into account the unique capabilities and accomplishments of the mounted officers and their mounts.

The U.S. Capitol Police mounted unit was created to help to ensure the safety of Congress and Capitol Hill. Horse-mounted officers have much greater mobility and visibility than those on the ground or in vehicles, and can be easily seen from crowds on the ground. I believe that the unique capabilities of the U.S. Capitol Police mounted officers are critically needed on Capitol Hill, especially in this age of terrorism.

I urge you to do everything you can to support and re-activate this distinguished mounted police unit.
